Not far to the northwest of Münster, Schlaun built himself a country lodge, the Rüschhaus near Nienberge. In his lodge he succeeded in combining the rustic farmhouse type of the Münster region with the frivolity of the French 'maison de plaisance." A central drive leads to the courtyard façadethe front or principal face of a building, especially one elaborately constructed; a blind façade is a façade that is purely decorative and does not relate to the structure of the building. with its great entrance archway. The garden front is ornamented with delicate windows and door frames and a flight of steps.
