The Musical Reunion 1642 Oil on copper, 32 x 40 cm Musée du Louvre, Paris

A series of small pictures, mainly on copper, depicting groups of diminutive figures, painted in strong and rich colours, and naively placed with no great care of calculated composition, is attributed to Antoine Le Nain. Most of these groups are portraits of bourgeois families shown in the surroundings of their own houses. <p> <table align=left cellpadding=5 border=1 width=320 bgcolor="#99cccc"> <tr valign=middle><td><img src="/support/gif/listen.gif" border=0 valign=middle> Suggested listening (streaming mp3, 6 minutes):<br><a href="#" onClick="w=window.open ('/music1/17_cent/couperin_pieces.html', 'newWin', 'scrollbars=yes,status=no,dependent=yes,screenX=0,screenY=0,width=350,height=350');w.opener=this;w.focus();return true"><b>François Couperin: Pieces de clavicen (excerpts)</b></a> </td></tr></table>
